Precast Concrete Slabs Are a Fast, Flexible, Durable and Cost-effective Way for Temporary and Permanent Large Site Paving
When choosing a paving solution in industry or agriculture, people look for the right balance of resistance and affordability, as paved areas are often large and have to withstand heavy duty conditions. Thanks to its durability and relatively low costs, concrete is an ideal material for such use; and if used in form of large concrete paving slabs these great characteristics are combined with flexibility and fast installation in larger areas.
Concrete slabs are an ideal choice for covering large areas like industrial and construction sites, storage areas, workshops, warehouses, and agricultural and recycling facilities. They can also be found in material storage bays, bunker silos, silage pits, manure storage and many other places.
Paving Slabs Are Durable
Concrete is very dense and therefore highly impermeable material. It can resist temperatures up to 93°C and, since it´s also very robust, withstand heavy loads. These excellent resistance features get even better when using slabs instead of in-situ poured concrete.
Moreover, paving slabs are, in fact, flexible which is a great advantage when it comes to temperature changes or bearing great loads. In-situ poured concrete is at higher risk of cracking when exposed to heavy loads. Concrete slabs, on the other hand, can easily handle and distribute the weight of both static and moving objects as they are able to slightly move or bend.
Paving with Concrete Slabs Is Cost-effective
Compared to other building materials, concrete is relatively cheap. The costs for paving large areas like sites in bulk handling or recycling facilities, can turn out to be quite high. Concrete slabs are therefore an ideal solution where you get durable product for relatively low price.
In addition to low initial costs, slabs require almost zero repair and maintenance, which will also save you a lot of money. In case of any potential damage, individual slabs can be quickly and easily replaced – which is much more economical than replacing the entire paving. Do you still need to be able to get under the paving to lay (or repair) cables or pipes? The concrete slabs are easy to remove. With in-situ poured concrete on site, costly holes have to be cut. Concrete slabs last a lifetime and can be reused. Because of their standard dimensions, they are readily available for purchase.
Slabs Are Fast and Easy to (Re)install
Another reason why people decide to pave with slabs is the speed with which they are installed. Concrete slabs can be pre-casted in conditioned workshops and transported to site. This reduces the installation time as there is no need for on-site assembly, pouring and drying. Slabs can be easily handled using special lifting gear. When the ground surface is properly flat and compacted, the slabs can be installed and the area is paved.
In addition, concrete slabs can be easily moved and replaced any time in case you need to expand or rearrange the area. This flexible system is therefore the ideal choice for both temporary and permanent site paving applications.
